Having finished the “Sermon on the Plain,” Jesus proceeds to Capernaum, where he has previously performed many healing miracles. This time a Roman officer contacts Jesus through his Jewish friends, asking that Jesus heal his servant, which is noteworthy in and of itself. But even Jesus marveled at the faith of this gentile, who somehow knew that Jesus had the power and authority to heal from a distance, by simply giving the word.
