These last 11 verses of Chapter 12 are clear in terms of what they imply for individual action: We should each seek to understand God’s word and to obey it, do what we can to be reconciled with every one who might have a claim against us, and live constantly as if we might encounter Christ and the final judgment at any moment. Each of us (because all are sinners) has good reason to fear the judgment and punishments promised to those who disobey God. Each of us (because all who believe in Christ are forgiven) has a reason to hope for the reward promised to those found doing God’s will when Christ returns. There is, however, no systematic explanation of these things in these verses; many questions remain unanswered.
