The Pharisees tell Jesus that Herod is trying to kill him. However Jesus has already committed himself to a path leading to death in Jerusalem, after which there will be nothing further that either Herod or the Pharisees can do with him, or without him. They will be separated from God until the day when they finally recognize Jesus for who he is.
