Hearing Jesus speak of the “Resurrection of the Just,” one of his table companions (almost certainly a Pharisee) opines how blessed will be all who enter the Kingdom of God. He seems hopeful and perhaps even confident that he and his companions will be among that blessed company. But Jesus tells the parable of the Great Banquet, in which many who were invited at first disqualify themselves by making excuses when they are finally called to the banquet.
