The Pharisees and scribes grumbled because Jesus spent so much time with sinners and tax collectors. In response Jesus told the three “parables of the lost” viz, sheep, coin, and brother. The meaning, at least one of them, I think, is that God knows when his children are missing, will do anything to recover them, and whenever he does, he and all of heaven with him will rejoice.
